Let's talk about... sex.

Warning: The following post is very sexual in nature and frank. You've been warned.

Do you think written erotica is like, porn for women? I mean, I know some women like real porn very much. They go in for the whole kit and caboodle as it were. And while I won't deny a certain fascination for sex-movies (for about 10 minutes until I start feeling sort of.. well, used) I will say I've always preferred the written word.

I remember as a kid, reading those cheesy Harlequin romance novels; (explains my skewed view of romance, no doubt)reading about throbbing members and quivering body parts does something to the female brain I think. It's funny to me that when I was a kid I read dirty novels and now that I'm an adult I read kid's books. *Snort* Anyway, I'm digressing....

But yeah, I mean, I know there are a lot of writing sites, fan fiction or not, that have a lot of adult content stories and most of these things are written by women for..other women. It's sort of like how the porn sites are all MALE-Oriented, the 'erotica' sites are all FEMALE-Oriented. Do women just have different tastes when it comes to getting off or are we all just being conditioned a certain way?

I reckon it depends on your make up- if you're more visual or not. But then again, so many porn movies are just badly made and so male-centric that I reckon it's hard for us female types to really get too excited about them. For so long so many of them have been about 'man gets blow-job' 'man has anal sex' etc etc. Not much in it for the girls there, is there? Or you can go the other route, there's all the lesbian flicks. What's funny about these, to me, is that while these movies are all about 'girl on girl' action and you'd think they'd be something empowering in that, there's not. It's still generated for a MALE audience, which is probably why lesbian porn scenes leave me cold. I don't think it has to do with me being a straight woman really, I think on average I'm aroused by all sorts of things, male and female so I don't think I'm harboring some inane homophobia. It's just the way the porn makers display lesbianism, it leaves you cold and disenfranchized with the whole deal.

Anyway, back to the written word. Are women more mental in their sexuality or are we just being denied trying to find other outlets? What would honest to goodness women-friendly porn consist of? Love? Romance? Plot? Oral sex galore (and I ain't talking about HIS)?

Anyone have any thoughts?
